Who Inkcentive Is For

Inkcentive is designed for children in kindergarten through third grade, with the strongest fit for the youngest learners just beginning to form letters. It is published in the App Store's Made for Kids program in the 5 and Under age band — the audience the app is most directly built for. Older children can still use it productively:

• Ages 4–5 (pre-K, kindergarten): the core audience. Tracing letter shapes, learning the alphabet, and starting on sight words. The kid screen uses big letters and icons rather than written labels, so pre-readers can navigate on their own.
• Ages 6–7 (1st–2nd grade): independent practice on letters and sight words, with parent-set goals and rewards adding daily structure.
• Ages 8 and up: useful for catch-up handwriting work, especially with custom word lists set by a parent or teacher.

What's In the App

• Letter tracing — uppercase, lowercase, mixed-case, and numbers
• Word tracing — built-in Dolch and Fry sight-word lists, plus custom words a parent adds
• Goals set by a parent — daily or weekly targets that earn stars when completed
• A reward catalog a parent creates — kids spend earned stars on rewards you choose
• Visual customization — letter size, template style, pen color, background
• On-device handwriting check, triggered only when the child taps a button

What's Not In the App

This is the part many parents care most about. Inkcentive contains:

• No advertising of any kind, ever — no banner ads, no video ads, no "watch this to continue."
• No in-app purchases. The app is paid once on the App Store and that's it.
• No third-party tracking or analytics. Not one SDK from anyone else.
• No accounts or sign-in. Nothing to register for, nothing to log into.
• No social features. No chat, no friends, no leaderboards, no sharing.
• No external links from the child area. The child cannot navigate out of the app or to the web from inside it.
• No camera, microphone, or location access. Inkcentive doesn't ask for any of these.
• No internet connection used or required. The app makes zero network requests.

Parental Controls

A 4-digit passcode you set on first launch protects:

• The parent area, where all settings, goals, rewards, and word lists live
• Every reward redemption — your child can earn stars on their own, but they need you to enter the passcode to spend them on something instant like screen time
• Changes to the passcode itself, and the "reset all data" option

Save-up contributions (a child putting a few stars toward a bigger reward) do not require the passcode — they aren't a redemption yet, just progress toward one.

Privacy for Children

Because Inkcentive collects no data and makes no network requests, there is no personal information for us, Apple, or anyone else to access — about your child or about you. Handwriting samples, progress, settings, and word lists all live only on your iPad. This is the strongest privacy posture an app can have for children's use.
